“Skinimalism”: making our routines more efficient, effective, and getting the most out of our self-care.
In 2018, it was estimated that over 7.9 billion units of plastic waste were created by the beauty & cosmetics industry alone. Constantly changing skincare trends, and a demand for new “miracle” ingredients, fuel this damage to our Earth. However, by making our skincare routines more efficient, focusing on ingredients that we know have been working for centuries, we can actively reduce waste at its source.
Furthermore, we are seeing an increase in the number of people destroying their skin barriers. As ingredients are being rushed to market, we are beginning to put an excess amount of skincare on our bodies and faces that is ultimately doing more damage to our skin than good.
At Kosterina, we are committed to making safe, clean products that deliver real results. Our skincare is free of any ingredients with potential harmful health effects like hormone disruption, cancer, and skin irritation. “Clean beauty” is a largely unregulated term, created in response to the limited regulation of the beauty industry.
We are constantly exposed to products and advertisements in our daily lives, whether it's through TV commercials, billboards, or social media. These constant exposures have an impact on our buying decisions and influence our preferences without us even realizing. This includes buying into trends that ultimately do not work.
So what is the solution? Here are our suggestions:
- Trust ingredients that have been used for centuries - instead of buying into trends , use products that utilize tried-and-true ingredients to their fullest potential.
- Understand what works best for you. If possible, try to minimize your skincare routine. The overuse of products may actually inhibit glowing skin.
- Embrace graceful aging - no amount of serums, toners, or potions will stop our bodies from growing older. Fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots will come with time, but not everyone lives to see them. We see these wisdom lines as a privilege and honor to have lived this long :)
- Adopt a skincare from the inside-out approach - the food that we nourish our bodies with also has a direct impact on the health of our skin barriers. Eat clean, feel clean, and feed your skin.
