About this recipe:

A burger and taco in one? These viral smash burgers are all over the internet for a good reason.  Perfect for grilling season and suitable for all tastebuds. We love that you can use any burger toppings (for us - we had to go Greek!) and how quickly this meal comes together.  A delicious combination the entire family will love.

Ingredients

For the Burger:

  • 1 pound of ground meat of your choice
  • ½ medium red onion chopped or minced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced or grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh mint, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Pita Bread
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion, feta cheese, za'atar

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • ¾ cups Greek yogurt
  • ½ cucumber
  • 1 clove of garlic, grated
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill
  • 2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Kosterina Spicy Red Pepper EVOO
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt + more to taste

Directions

For the Burger:

  • Combine the ground meat, onion, garlic, mint, and seasonings until fully combined then roll into 4 balls
  • Heat a flat top grill or cast iron pan over medium-high heat
  • Place the meat balls onto the heated surface
  • Immediately, using a heavy pan or stiff spatula, smash the pita down on top of the burger until it's as flat as you would like
  • Close grill (if applicable) and cook for 3-4 minutes until the meat is crispy and cooked through.
  • Flip over for about 1 minute then serve with toppings

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • Grate cucumber on a large-holed box grater
  • Wring out or press out any excess liquid from cucumber
  • In a medium bowl, combine grated cucumber, yogurt, lemon juice, dill, min, garlic, Kosterina Spicy Red Pepper EVOO, and salt
  • Refrigerate for up to 3 days, covered
